About Our Departemen


The education in landscape architecture in IPB was first introduced as a Study Program in 1985, and has been accredited with A status since 1998 (National Board of Accreditation for Higher Education Institution No. 00497/Ak-I.1/IPBAIP/VIII/1998). In 2005 along with the changes in the curriculum and organization of IPB, the Study Program of Landscape Architecture became the Major Program in Landscape Architecture under the management (home base) of the Department of Landscape Architecture (Rector Decree No:001/ K13/PP/2005).


In line with the vision of IPB to become a leading university in the field of tropical agriculture, the vision of the Study Program/Major in Landscape Architecture is to become a leading study program of landscape architecture in Asia by focusing on the development of potential biodiversity and characteristics of tropical landscape.

The unique expertise in landscape architecture as vocation with a specific responsibility as described above is acknowledged by the professional colleague at the international level known as International Federation of Landscape Architecture (IFLA) and at the national level by Indonesian Society of Landscape Architecture (IALI).%uFFFD Moreover, in facing the flow of foreign experts in providing the construction services as an impact of globalization, in 2000 IALI set up an accrediting body for the expertise in landscape architecture called Badan Sertifikasi Arsitek Lanskap (BSAL) (Certification Board of Landscape Architecture).


Qualitatively, the profession of landscape architecture has provided significant services in landscape development. Some areas of development under the domain of this expertise are settlement, tourism resorts, recreation and hotels, public/office parks; historical and cultural landscape, protected landscape, civil works, landscape works under the domain of the Department of Public Works, Department of Home Affairs, Office of Living Environment, as well as trainings of lecturers in state/private universities who are responsible for related courses.


As science, technology and arts developed from a group of agricultural sciences in a broad sense, this field contributes in the development of
1)The science of integrated landscape planning based on ecology, esthetics, and behaviors, suitability and adaptability of landscape plants in generally marginal environment (urban areas, industries, roof garden, etc.), cultural landscape, and entrepreneurship.
2)Technology and arts: engineering techniques of landscape at the scale of neighborhood, community, villages, cities and regions; visual landscape assessment; computerized graphical modeling; techniques of landscape conservation and preservation, as well as the art of designing landscape.

The Department of Landscape Architecture, Faculty of Agriculture, Bogor Agricultural University is registered as a member of various forums and related supporting institutions (IALI), and take a role in national expertise certification (BSAL, Certification Board of Landscape Architecture) and Educational Forum of Landscape Architecture (FPALI) at both national and international levels (IFLA, AFELA) as the form of services and self actualization for its society. Such role is a means of the development in professionalism and expertise of alumnae and educators/researchers in the field of landscape architecture.In the international forums, the teaching staffs of the Study Program/ Major in Landscape architecture are actively involved as staff in international organizations of landscape architecture, namely, IFLA Education Section. They are also involved in such organizations as International Federation of Park and Recreation Administration (IFPRA) and Asian Federation of Educator in Landscape Architecture (AFELA).Other organizations in which the Department of Landscape Architecture has an active role are South East Asian Networking for Agroforestry Education (SEANAFE) and Indonesia Networking for Agroforestry (INAFE), particularly in the field of agroforestry landscape.
